Development and Simulation of Specific Receiver Algorithms for Satellite AIS

Satellite AIS (Automatic Identification System) is a global coverage system enabling to track and identify vessels all over the world. The satellite on-board AIS receiver detects and demodulates the VHF signal transmitted by the vessels. The main issue is that the satellite receives many AIS messages from different vessels sent at the same time and at the same frequency, leading to message collisions. The purpose of the study is to develop and validate by simulation a specific algorithm enabling to process message collisions and recover AIS messages.
